Madai CAves

Madai Caves

The Madai Caves are famous because of the nests of Swiftlets birds. These nests are harvested annually by the Idahan tribe, for a special Chinese delicacy called the ‘bird’s nest soup’. Every year a festival is held by the tribe at the entrance of the main cave, when the male members of the tribe remove the nests from the high cave roof by risking their lives. This ritual and the rights to the Madai caves have been held by the Idahan tribe for over twenty generations and one has to obtain their permission to visit the caves.

Tuhau makes a great accompanying dish for anything and everything. You can find it at tamu markets or vegetable markets all across Sabah.

HISTORY OF SABAH

the history of Sabah can be traced back to about 23–30,000 years ago when evidence suggests the earliest human settlement in the region existed. The history is interwoven with the history of Brunei and the history of Malaysia, to which Sabah was previously part of and is currently part of respectively. The earliest recorded history of Sabah being part of any organised civilisation began in the early 16th century during the thriving era of the Sultanate of Brunei. Prior to this, early inhabitants of the land lived in predominantly tribal societies, although such tribal societies had continued to exist until the 1900s.[1] The eastern part of Sabah was ceded to the Sultan of Sulu by the Sultan of Brunei in 1658 for the former helping a victory over Brunei enemies. By the late 19th century, both territories previously owned by Sultan of Brunei and Sultan of Sulu was granted to British syndicate.[2] Sabah became a protectorate of the United Kingdom in 1888 and subsequently became a crown colony until 1963, during which time it was known as North Borneo. On September 16, 1963, Sabah merged with Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore (left in 1965) to form the Federation of Malaysia.T

Upah saja porter bawak naik-turun beg2 tu.
So u need those.
(subjected to availability)
Kalau korang kehujanan dah tak suka kasut basah, boleh bawak extra kasut sebab kat kasut memang tak sempat kering untuk mendaki. Tapi kalau korang pakai kasut Adidas Kampong tu, gerenti takde masalah kasut basah, sebab boleh lap aje dgn kain/tisu and tadaaahh...kering. :D
Sangat membantu for energy naik & turun dari puncak.
Stay hydrated. Walaupun tak rasa haus (sebab cuaca sejuk) tapi kena pastikan minum air secukupnya.
Sebelum tidur, makan panadol sebelum tidur.
Jalan pulak pukul 3-4 pagi, memang mengantuk sangat. Maka, kena buat strategi berjalan, contohnya : jalan 30langkah, rehat 10 kiraan. Tapi kalau korang mampu untuk jalan terus tanpa rehat2, lagi bagus.
Then aku suggest korang makan tidbids masa naik ke puncak tu.

Aku pun kena jugak kalini sbb turun pakai adidas kampong.
Turun secara zig zag. Dapat kurangkan tekanan kat kaki.
Kena check-out dari GL/LR at 10am, last breakfast at 10.30am. Last lunch di Balsam Cafe, di Kinabalu Park HQ at 4.30pm. So kena bajet time betul2 masa turun.

Sebaik2nya korang plan 6months in advance kalau nak mendaki ke sana.

Contact person : David (the boss the father) 019 862 1726.
Charles will be leading the van, and he is very cute and helpful. Macam haritu, on the way ke Kinabalu Park, dia dah call Kinabalu Park HQ siap2 untuk booking Jemin as our mountain guide.

Flight. MAS or AA?
Kalau korang plan awal2, boleh target beli tiket murah MAS ataupun AA. Macam aku haritu, kebetulan MAS tengah buat promo then bila compare dengan AA, MAS lebih murah. So terus beli. Kitorang mmg lebih prefer naik MAS sbb lebih convenient in terms of luggage handling, waiting time and area and of coz, tak payah nak pikir nak beli food. he he.
Untuk flight balik, aku suggest beli tiket the next day selepas turun gunung. Jangan beli tiket balik on the same day turun dari gunung. Chances you will miss the flight is high. So allocate some budget to overnight in KK.

Sungai Padas Whitewater rafting.
Kalau korang berminat nak buat aktiviti ni, aku suggest pegi sebelum naik ke gunung.
Tak digalakkan untuk pegi lepas turun gunung sebab badan still keras kejung penuh lactic acid so higher risk of body cramp masa kat air. I guess thats the reason juga why trip kami cancelled, Allah knows the best.
Boleh contact Riverbug (click HERE for website) untuk package whitewater rafting : 019 820 4921
